An Integrated Analysis of the 2030 Agenda and its target 8.7
Moving towards a sustainable world without Child Labour
The Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean free of Child Labour (RI) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have developed a web application that allows a quick reading of the link between the 8.7 target -that aims to reduce child labour and all its forms by 2025- and eight Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 35 targets.
The application is available in Spanish, English and will soon be available in French. It has updated information on the characteristics of child labour and the reduction progress in the region. Also, it introduces the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Decent Work goal and the eradication of Child Labour target. Finally, it proposes key messages and provides links of interest related to the analysis.
The executive summary and full report of the study: “Latin America and the Caribbean: towards the first generation free of child labour. An integrated and interdependent analysis of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in relation to target 8.7”, provide more detailed information.
The application demonstrates the direct impact of policies and strategies in different sectors such as Education, Health, Development, among others in the prevention and eradication of child labour, for example, actions to improve the access and enrolment of children and adolescents in the education system, or to reduce inequality.
The section “Connections with 8.7” of the app shows the degree of interrelation and interdependency between target 8.7 – that is linked to SDG 8 about decent work and economic growth– and eight other SDGs: SDG 1 zero hunger, SDG 2 no poverty, SDG 3 good health and well-being, SDG 4 quality education, SDG 5 gender equality, SDG 10 reduced inequalities, SDG 13 climate action, and SDG 16 peace, justice and strong institutions.
One of the characteristics of the 2030 Agenda is that offers a common vision and shared goals to "ensure that nobody is left behind" and to build a more just and inclusive world. This application contributes by offering information and elements that will facilitate the joint action between different actors and themes. It is the first stage of a broader analysis that will be complemented with the support of the ILO and the contributions of other committed partners in order to achieve the first generation of Latin America and the Caribbean free of child labour.
Academics and researchers are invited to expand the knowledge base by analysing the interdependencies between the 17 SDGs and child labour and decent work for youth, to provide criteria to improve the performance of the public response to these issues and promote the linkage of other key partners in a transformative agenda for the countries and for the region.
The application is available in the section "Resources" of the virtual platform: www.iniciativa2025alc.org. Also, it can be viewed from a computer or cell phone through the following link: http://target8-7.iniciativa2025alc.org/en/.
