What is a Pioneer Country of Alliance 8.7?

They are those committed to going further and faster to advance in the achievement of Goal 8.7 of the 2030 Agenda. These countries have or have committed to adopt action plans or national policies regarding the issues prioritized in Goal 8.7, do more through public political commitment and promoting and complying with international standards.

This workshop is the first step taken by a country in Latin America and the Caribbean as a pioneer country of Alliance 8.7 . In 2018, Chile received an invitation from the International Labor Organization to join this global group made up of governments, employers 'and workers' organizations, international civil society organizations, the UN, specialized regional initiatives and research institutions, in order to achieve Target 8.7 of the 2030 Agenda.

The Chilean government has shown sustained commitment to achieve the SDGs and, especially, Target 8.7. Since 2014, it is an active member of the  Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean free of child labor (IR) ; In 2015, it developed its  National Strategy for the eradication of child labor and the protection of adolescent workers 2015-2025 ,  and to date it is updating its  National Action Plan against Trafficking in Persons  for the period 2019-2022 .

It should be noted that, during the workshop, Chile will present a preview of the experimental application of the Child Labor Vulnerability Index, a tool created by the ILO and ECLAC within the framework of the Regional Initiative, with the objective of a) identifying the territories most vulnerable to child labor and b) define  multisectoral actions  to  interrupt the trajectory of child labor,  advance in the effective implementation of public policies on the matter and accompany Chile in its commitment to declare itself a country free of child labor in 2025.

At the end of the workshop, the official adoption of the 2019-2021 Roadmap is expected by the Undersecretary of Labor, Fernando Arab, and the Undersecretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Ubilla.
